Cleaning your CD

By handling your favourite CD’s over a period of time you leave fingerprints, even if you just leave them on the shelf dust can build-up on them. When you decide to play some of your favourite tracks or watch one of your DVD’s, they start jumping like you on a Saturday at your local nightclub.  Don’t despair any more, there is no need to throw them away it could just be dust and oil preventing them from playing properly. Cleaning should be the fist option that you choose. Disc cleaning kits are available, but all you really need is lukewarm water and a few drops of washing-up liquid.

  • Firstly, start by running warm water over the disc to remove dust and grime that can cause scratches. ...
  • If there is stubborn grease or dirt on the disc, gently rub it with a microfiber cloth and washing up liquid. Rubbing alcohol can also be used in place of soap and water. Never dry-wipe any disc without doing this first, always use a microfiber cloth to wipe your discs.
  • Any time you rub or wipe CD, you do so by starting at or near the centre of the disc and rub straight
  • Shake the water off the disc and let it air dry.
  • Do not dry with a towel or cloth, and don’t sun-dry

Electronics stores carry repair kits to remove minor scratches from CD’s and DVD’s.
